Nanchang: The number of freshman classes in urban high schools this fall must not exceed 50 people
Xinhua News Agency, Nanchang, August 22 (Reporter Shen Yang) The Nanchang Municipal Education Bureau recently announced a special plan to eliminate large school quotas and large class sizes in ordinary high schools, proposing to completely eliminate super large classes with more than 66 students by 2020, and control the proportion of large school quotas within 3%. Among them, the number of freshmen classes in ordinary high schools in urban areas in the fall of 2019 shall not exceed 50 students.
Expanding educational resources is the main way to solve the problem of large school quotas and large class sizes. Nanchang City will implement the construction of new expansion, maintenance and renovation projects of ordinary high school schools according to the layout plan of educational outlets. It is expected that by 2020, Nanchang City will have 27,000 new ordinary high school places. At the same time, Nanchang City requires counties and districts to provide necessary education, teaching and living facilities and equipment for weak schools, and to expand the supply of ordinary high school degrees in an orderly manner to facilitate students to study within the county.
Nanchang City stipulates that the size of a new ordinary high school shall not exceed 4,000 students, and the class size shall not exceed 50 students. Starting from 2019, the Nanchang Municipal Education Bureau will determine the specific enrollment plan for each ordinary high school based on the per-student school building area, teacher-student ratio, class size, etc., and appropriately reduce the enrollment plan for schools with overly large class sizes depending on the situation.
As of June 2019, Nanchang City has a total of 75 ordinary high schools with 105,704 students, including 4 large schools and 574 large classes. The number of large classes accounts for 28% of the number of ordinary high school classes in the city.
