On August 26, Future Auto Daily (ID: auto-time) learned exclusively from multiple Tesla staff that Tesla’s price increase for all series originally scheduled for early September has been advanced to this Friday, August 30.

"This price increase is mainly due to exchange rate changes. If we wait until September for another increase, we will lose money if we sell at the current price." The above-mentioned staff member said that the reason for this price increase is exchange rate fluctuations, and the increase is "internally estimated to be about 1% to 5%." Several Tesla stores confirmed to Future Auto Daily (ID: auto-time) that Tesla headquarters has sent an email notifying them of the price increase. It is expected that the price will be adjusted starting at 11 a.m. on August 30. The specific price adjustment range may be around 3%.

On August 5, the exchange rate of RMB against the US dollar "broke 7", and the exchange rate of the US dollar against the RMB rose. Rumors about Tesla's price adjustment surfaced for the first time. On August 7, Reuters reported that due to the impact of exchange rates, Tesla will increase the prices of its models in the Chinese market in September. The specific increase and time of the increase are still uncertain.

Compared with multinational car companies with joint venture brands, the selling price of Tesla, which currently only has imported models, is greatly affected by economic policies in China. According to China Economic Net, when China first proposed imposing tariffs on imported cars made in the United States, Tesla's selling price in China increased by about 200,000 yuan on average.

Affected by the latest tariff policy, this may not be Tesla's last price increase this year.

The above-mentioned Tesla staff revealed to Future Auto Daily (ID: auto-time) that due to the impact of tariff policies, Tesla prices are expected to "have another big increase" between November and December.

On August 15, 2019, the U.S. government announced that it would impose an additional 10% tariff on approximately US$300 billion of goods imported from China, which would be implemented in two batches starting from September 1 and December 15, 2019. On August 23, the Tariff Commission of the State Council issued an announcement, deciding to resume imposing additional tariffs of 25% and 5% on automobiles and parts originating in the United States starting from 12:01 on December 15, 2019. Affected by this, the U.S. auto stock market fell collectively the next day. General Motors, Ford, Tesla, and Chrysler all fell by more than 2%, and Tesla's stock price fell by 4.57%.

Previously, Tesla has made multiple price adjustments in China this year. In March, Tesla China’s entire range saw significant price cuts, with the highest price reduction for Model X exceeding 300,000 yuan. Model 3 and Model S also saw price drops of varying magnitudes. In July, the price of the Model 3 series was reduced, with the maximum reduction exceeding 30,000 yuan.
