Xinhua News Agency, Chengdu, August 22: Finding a sports industry development path that is in line with China's national conditions - an exclusive interview with Wang Yuxiong, director of the Sports Economics Research Center of the Central University of Finance and Economics

In the past five years, China's sports industry has developed rapidly, but the road has not been smooth sailing.

Wang Yuxiong, director of the Sports Economics Research Center of the Central University of Finance and Economics, who attended the 2019 National Sports Industry Base Work Conference in Chengdu, said in an exclusive interview with a reporter from Xinhua News Agency that my country’s sports industry has had distinct Chinese characteristics since the first day of its development, so it must also follow a development path that is in line with national conditions.

Wang Yuxiong said: "From the perspective of top-level design, the pursuit of industrial development is not a completely independent goal. Coordinated development with mass sports and competitive sports is the ultimate goal; from the perspective of development environment, my country's sports industry has grown and developed in an institutional environment where the constantly improving market economy and the national system of competitive sports coexist; from the perspective of industry characteristics, the sports industry often has strong externalities, which may lead to market failure. Market failure. These characteristics determine that (the development of China's sports industry) cannot copy the successful experience of advanced economies such as the United States and the European Union, nor can it simply learn from the development experience of other domestic industries. Instead, it needs to draw wisdom from China's tradition of "crossing the river by feeling the stones" since the reform and opening up." Wang Yuxiong said that the establishment and construction of the national sports industry base is also an exploration on this development path.

Since 2006, through the joint efforts of the State Sports General Administration and sports departments at all levels across the country, the scale of the national sports industry base has continued to expand. Currently, 45 demonstration bases with district and county-level people's governments as the main body have been named, 73 demonstration units with sports enterprises and institutions as the main body, and 53 demonstration projects with sports events as the main body, involving competition performances, sports training, fitness and leisure, sports and tourism integration, venue services, supplies manufacturing, media technology and other industrial fields.

In recent years, Wang Yuxiong and his team members have conducted tracking research on the development of national sports industry bases, and the "National Sports Industry Demonstration Base Development Index Research Report" shared at the meeting is one of the important research results commissioned by the Sports Equipment and Equipment Center of the State Sports General Administration. Wang Yuxiong said that this development index includes 57 operational indicators at 4 levels, and comprehensively evaluates the development level of each demonstration base by evaluating the sports industry development environment, development level and development impact of the demonstration base.

The report stated: “Through the analysis of the development index results, it can be found that government departments at all levels attach great importance to the work of demonstration bases and have formed a relatively complete support policy system. The agglomeration effect of the sports industry in the demonstration bases has initially emerged, but the problem of imbalance among the eastern, central and western regions is still prominent. "The sports industry in demonstration bases urgently needs to be further expanded and strengthened, and the cultivation of comprehensively developed benchmark demonstration bases needs to be strengthened." Wang Yuxiong believes that as the national team of the sports industry, their development can actually well reflect the characteristics and highlights of the development of China's sports industry. “In recent years, new highlights have appeared in the development of China’s sports industry. For example, in the western region, based on unique natural resources, the industrial integration of outdoor sports and tourism has developed rapidly; in the central region, under the background of the era of manufacturing transfer, many local sports manufacturing industries have developed rapidly and begunThe phenomenon of integrated development of sports manufacturing and sports service industries has begun to appear. These highlights can actually be confirmed by the new sports industry demonstration bases in recent years. "

Wang Yuxiong is very optimistic about the future development of China's sports industry. He said that although the domestic sports consumption culture still needs to be slowly cultivated, there is still a lot to be done even under the current conditions. He said: "China's market demand is still huge, and it is not saturated at present. We conducted a study in Beijing and came to an exciting conclusion - even if a series of influencing factors such as income remain unchanged, just starting from the supply side and continuing to improve venue facilities, events and service supply will be enough to achieve rapid growth in residents' sports consumption. Therefore, the supply is actually still insufficient, and the market demand is still huge. ”

Around 2015, China’s sports industry investment experienced a wave of boom, but the boom gradually cooled down after 2016. Wang Yuxiong believes that in the process of rapid development of any industry, from the perspective of the capital market, it will go through several rounds of investment. The fluctuation cycle from peak to trough. But in fact, during this fluctuation process, the production efficiency of the industry will continue to improve. "The current sports industry capital market is in the downward stage from the first round of peaks to troughs. This is the reason why many people felt that sports industry investment was "sluggish" before. "Wang Yuxiong said, "Although the tide may recede, really good companies can still survive. ”

Wang Yuxiong said that the national sports industry base system was only proposed and implemented in just over ten years. It is too early to comment on its merits and demerits at this time, but just as the sports industry is an important part of China’s economic and social development, the national sports industry base system and even the systems composed of these systems are The development path of the sports industry with Chinese characteristics is also an important part of the economic and social development path with Chinese characteristics.

"The innovation and the resulting wisdom in the national sports industry base will surely become an inexhaustible driving force to promote the advancement of my country's sports industry. "Wang Yuxiong said.
